Black Pot Cook Off

February 28, 2012 | Categories: Events | Tags: , ,

I recently met with two fine gentlemen, Andy Hill and Randy Hamill, who are helping me plan the new Black Pot Cook-Off event to be held in Old Town on April 22nd.

Mr. Hill and Mr. Hamill have a wealth of information when it comes to anything between Civil War Reenactments and Cowboy Culture.  I am thrilled to have their counsel!

On April 22nd we will kick off our inaugural event of the Dutch Oven cooks competing for cash prizes!  We are looking for people interested in competing on an amateur level, both the junior division (12 to 16 year olds) and a regular division. So whether you have never cooked in cast iron, or you are a professional, please consider joining us on a beautiful spring day and demonstrate your learning curves and skills!

There will be official judging as well as “people’s choice” judging.

The price to compete is a $25 entry fee.

Those folks who would like to sample the food can do so with a wrist band identification that can be purchased for $25.  Those folks are the Peoples Choice judges and will determine the awards in that division!

The week of April 22nd is National Cowboy Poetry Week and what would a black pot cook-off be without Cowboy Poetry? We will have regional poets scheduled throughout the event to perform, along with some great music and artisians showing samples of work of the era, including blacksmithing, weaving, quilting, sewing, caning, the making of boats, saddles and brooms! Artisans will be selling their handmade items.

Join us on Sunday April 22nd!
