First Annual Fig Party and Chef Competition

It was the first annual Fig Party and a big success! Thank you to the California Fig Advisory Board who put the event together. They worked with the chefs at the Institute of Technology, who provided fig salsa and fig bars for sampling. Chef Jim Pacini and Chef Christian Romeo performed cooking demonstrations using figs to the delight of the crowd.

Another feature of the evening was the “showdown” chef contest between Dustin Stewart of Dusty Buns and Chris Shackleford of Trelio! Mike Scott, who is retired from CBS/47, emceed the contest and Liz Gonzales of KMPH, Peter Ficklin Wines and Hillori Hansen, Whole Foods chef, were the judges. The food looked fantastic! Dustin won the contest, although the judges said it was close! Chris Shackleford competed again at the Fig Throw Down at the Vineyard Farmers Market a week later and came in 2nd in the People’s Choice award, after The Painted Table. Talk about stiff competition!

There was a great crowd at the first Fig Party and plans are underway for the 2nd Annual Fig Party in 2014!
