This Friday, July 21st, 2017, marks the 23rd Annual Pole Vault Championships in Old Town Clovis. What started as a way to promote the sport of Track and Field and the Pole Vault, has now become the premier event for pole vaulting competitions in the United States.

Seven teams of Pole Vaulters will be competing for highest jump, including Sacramento, CA; Phoenix, AZ; Los Angeles, CA; Clovis, CA; Hanford, CA; West Coast Regionals and Rising Stars. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes in Men’s and Women’s Divisions will be given, with top performances winning a trip to Jimmy Jack’s Alaskan Fishing Lodge in Kenai, Alaska!

This is by far the most exciting event that happens on the streets of Old Town Clovis! The crowd cheers and claps while music pumps up the athletes, set to break their records. The Pole Vaulters toss t-shirts and signature bars out to the crowd upon successful jumps. There is a Parade of Champions honoring past Pole Vault superstars. It’s a great night to learn about the history of the sport and watch some amazing athletes defy gravity!

The competition will start about 4:45pm, with the official Opening Ceremony happening between 6:30 and 7:00 pm. We are honored to have Margot Kim from the ABC Action News team on hand to sing the National Anthem. Temperatures are reported to be in the high 90’s, which is cooler than past years! It’s lining up to be a great event.
