Taking it to the Streets – Parklets in Old Town!
By Dwight Kroll
Clovis is looking to build upon the success of Old Town with an update to the 1983 Specific Plan. With some exciting projects about to start in Old Town including two new mixed-use buildings at Centennial Plaza and a library/senior center complex at 3rd and Clovis Avenues, we felt that the time was right to celebrate with a one-of-a-kind urban design festival.
On Saturday and Sunday May 14-15, 15 parking spaces will be replaced with temporary human spaces. Various groups from architects to artists to school classes will be constructing parklets that represent something of their place in our community…think of it as a parade where the spectators move by and the floats remain in one spot.
Saturday we’ll have the groundbreaking for the Centennial Plaza Buildings at 12:30 followed by live entertainment by Cole Fonseca, Patrick Contreras and friends, food trucks and tours of the “humatats”. At 3:30 there will be the “architects fun race” followed by an awards ceremony at 4:30.
We welcome all to come down to the festival and celebrate this unique place called “Old Town”
